Our Mission

To allow seniors and adults with disabilities to remain in their own home and their community by providing assisted living services taking into account cultural, linguistic and medical needs. These services should remain flexible and be coordinated to meet the changing needs of each individual by maintaining open communication.

Area served: Sudbury East.

Our Story

While taking a university history course in sociology, Mrs. Armande Monette-Pitre did a project on senior citizens: their needs, worries, etc. While working on this project, she realized something needed to be done. In 1986, being a councillor, she approached the Municipal council of Cosby, Mason and Martland with her ideas and concerns. Through SEMA (Sudbury East Municipal Association), she gathered information o the funds available by the Ministry of Community and Social Services in order to provide services for seniors.

The first steps were a survey and a public meeting to identify the needs. Then, a proposal was put together asking the Ministry for funds to provide the following services to the seniors of Noelville, Monetville and Wolseley Bay: Meals on Wheels, Home Help, Home Maintenance and Transportation. In 1988, UCFO (Union Culturelle des Franco-Ontariennes) de Noelville accepted to sponsor the program after several other organizations showed no interest. The first meeting of the board of directors was held on June 13, 1988.

Denise Rousselle was hired as coordinator of the program. The program started delivering services on July 1, 1988.

In the Fall of ’89, the community of Alban approached the Ministry to receive the services. Further to that demand, the Ministry asked Aide aux Seniors to please offer services to that community. UCFO de Noelville accepted the further commitment and asked Alban to appoint 2 members to their board, so that Alban would be represented.

In the Fall of ’92, a proposal was submitted to the Ministry by another agency, for funds to offer services to the Markstay, St-Charles and Warren area. The Ministry then asked Aide aux seniors if they would consider offering services to that area as administration. UCFO de Noelville agreed to take on the extra responsibility as they have the wellbeing of Seniors at heart. At that time, they invited representatives from that area to sit on their board. In January 1993, Aide aux Seniors started offering services to the Northern part of Sudbury East.

In January 1995, 2 new programs were added to the organization: Supportive Housing and an Adult Day Program.
July 25, 1997, Aide aux seniors was incorporated and changed its name to aide aux seniors de Sudbury est/Sudbury east seniors support inc. at that time a new board was formed and we are now operating as a corporation under the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations.

November 8, 2011, 1 new program was added to the organization: aging at home program.
